Israel Aerospace Unveils Ellyon Electronic Attack Platform

What IAI unveiled at Farnborough: Ellyon’s mission set

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) introduced Ellyon as a multi-mission aircraft system built for electronic attack and “advanced Intelligence Surveillance Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) capabilities.” According to IAI, Ellyon bundles full-spectrum frequency jamming and coverage, SIGINT, long-range SAR/GMTI radar, electro-optical sensing, and wide-band satellite communications into a single airborne platform. The company described the result as an “all-in-one” system intended to operate at standoff distances while supporting both sensing and effects in the electromagnetic domain.

Platform, protection, and operational presentation

IAI showed Ellyon in a company video mounted on a modified Bombardier Global 6500, which the firm said offers the “speed, altitude, range and short turnaround to fully exploit the aircraft’s array of sensors and effectors.” The company also emphasized that the system is “platform-agnostic” and can be integrated on other business jet platforms. In the online video, the aircraft is depicted operating off a coastline at standoff range with an onboard crew using multiple terminals to engage air-defense threats, manage intelligence collection, and operate an AESA radar. The display also highlighted onboard threat detection and countermeasures intended to protect the aircraft.

AI-enabled mission management and communications

IAI stated that Ellyon incorporates AI-based capabilities. The company described a multi-mission management system that “processes information from onboard sensors, generates intelligence insights, and transmits them in real-time via satellite communications to command centers, ground control stations, and additional airborne platforms.” IAI characterized the technologies behind Ellyon as operationally proven, part of Elta’s “family of intelligence aircraft developed for the Israel Defense Forces and allies around the globe,” and said those aircraft have “accumulated extensive operational experience, supporting air defense, intelligence superiority and strategic operational capabilities.”

Hypnosis: a companion navigation-warfare layer

Alongside Ellyon, IAI announced Hypnosis, a navigation warfare air-defense system intended to operate against unmanned aerial systems (UAS) that depend on satellite positioning. IAI explained that “The satellite navigation systems onboard aerial systems need to receive the position and time data from the satellites in order to accurately reach their targets. When these systems are disrupted or neutralized, the aerial threats can no longer accurately navigate to their intended targets.” IAI Chairman of the Board Boaz Levy said Hypnosis fits into IAI’s work against evolving aerial threats, and Guy Barlev, announced as the company’s new CEO, described Hypnosis as providing “a critical and highly effective soft-kill defense layer, enabling nations to address the growing spectrum of GNSS-based aerial threats.”

How technologists, procurement leaders, and the IDF and allies are likely to respond

  • Technologists and security teams: will examine the AI-based multi-mission management claims and the SATCOM integration IAI described, focusing on real-time data flows and the interoperability of SIGINT, SAR/GMTI, and electro-optical streams when fused by onboard systems.
  • Procurement leaders and national militaries: will weigh platform-agnostic integration against the operational performance IAI says the modified Bombardier Global 6500 provides, and will assess whether Hypnosis offers a viable soft-kill layer for GNSS-reliant threats.
  • The Israel Defense Forces and allies: already noted by IAI as part of Elta’s customer base, may view Ellyon and Hypnosis as extensions of existing multi-mission aircraft roles—IAI points to prior operational experience and to historical squadron work, recalling the Israeli Air Force’s 2012 comment that a G550’s mission is “to keep the Israeli aerial territory secure.”

IAI positioned these systems amid current operational demands: the company noted Israel’s involvement in a multi-front war since the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack, including intensive air operations in Gaza and Lebanon and long-range missions against Iranian-backed Houthis in Yemen and in Iran. That context is the backdrop IAI used to frame the operational need for integrated, standoff-capable electronic attack and navigation-warfare systems.

Ellyon and Hypnosis together signal IAI’s push to combine sensing, effects and navigation-warfare in airborne packages that can be fielded quickly on business-jet platforms. The company called the technologies operationally proven and pointed to Elta’s family of intelligence aircraft and their accumulated operational experience. Whether governments opt to accelerate procurement, move toward integration on additional platforms, or limit use to established squadrons will be an immediate test of those claims.
